You’re all our favourites!

It’s the run up to one of our favourite times of the year; you know what it is, if you don’t then you’ll know v v soon! Anyway, recently we’ve been thinking about favourites and how all the things we have in stock are well quite simply our favourites and that’s why we’ve got them in here for you. That’s how we tick - we drink coffee and choose gorgeous vintage items and scour for local makers. We normally wake up and then look for our favourites so that you can wake up and then find your own favourites from the favourites we’ve found. It’s all a real treat frankly. We’ve got so many, so here’s just a few for the moment until we calm down again and bring you some more.

In the hopper there’s the innocent and totally unspooky ‘Guilty Pleasure’ blend from another favourite roasters, Cairngorm. They’ve had a packaging overhaul since more recent stocks in our shop; on our shelf we’ve got two delicious Brazils. The Cetec and the Agata. The former is a bit of a special one with a pretty recent variety in Brazil, the Arara, and a relatively unheard of processing technique, more common in wine, call carbonic maceration, done with apples—where the cherries are fermented in a dense, airy mix of carbon dioxide which helps loosen the mucilage around the beans before processing and roasting. It achieves the same end as natural processing or washing, but separates the lot a bit from the rest of the gang. Cairngorm are a staple on our shelves and in our hopper.

Other new treats we have: Shibui is a new favourite. They please us with their sustainable approach: plastic-free recyclable and compostable packaging, ethical sourcing and trading partners. They’re members of the “1% for the Planet” scheme in which members donate 1% of their annual sales to help protect the environment. Supporting all these good choices is a delicious range of teas sourced and packaged by them in Edinburgh. The right stuff getting the right treatment very close to where we lay our heads. On our shelves here in the shop we’ve got the gorgeous Organic Mint, Scottish Breakfast, Earl Grey, Tropical Green & Rooibos and Orange. It’s brew time!

Molly Hankinson is our favourite and we’ve had a restock. Molly’s strong lines and saturated use of colour provide the backdrop for stunning intersectional portraits; the characters are often set gazing right at you, provoking you, challenging you. Since graduating she has carved a clear and distinctive visual style that spans prints and mural making. Her murals and large-format posters have been seen across Glasgow, more recently on Purdon Street in Partick as part of the Yardworks’ GRID programme, which aims to connect Partick, Yorkhill and Govan through creative projects and murals.

Our forever-ever favourite printmaker Max Machen has had a refresh on our walls—there are some cards too, though they might fly out the door, so no problem, we’ll just have to get some more if that’s what you’re in to—that season is coming ;) Max’s world is surreal and bold; his risographs play with the bright and the inky. There’s giant bodies and tiny heads. Sometimes there’s cheeky statements thrown in or a dog smoking a cigarette or your coffee pot telling you to wake up. The cuter animal prints go for children and adults alike and their colours, vivid through the method, are in a classic riso palette. We’ve had prints from Max in for as long as we can remember and will keep them for as long as we’re open! There’s a pledge!

So long farewell adieu we see you soon for scary times with vintage and coffee, same time, same place. Oh oh! We are open every day 11-6 EXCEPT TUESDAY, so please come and chat to us, especially with Doggos and the soon to be tricking and treating Bambinis!!!
