We celebrate Glasgow’s local Jewellers!

That’s right, you know it already: we sell stunning handpicked vintage and we serve up some of the best coffee in Glasgow, all thanks to our rotating hopper of the best roasters ;) but what we also do is celebrate Scottish independent artists, makers and brands.

We’re filling our stockings (we mean our shelves) ready for the most thoughtful Christmas gifts on Glasgow’s Southside. More about that another time, first up, we are celebrating some of Glasgow’s most beautiful jewellers.

All these delights are on our online shop right now - the perfect gift?! And remember you can subscribe to this newsletter and get 10% off, y’know just for Christmas!

Smith & Gibb’s stunning enamel Jewellery pieces

We have always loved gorgeous statement jewellery to compliment and shine with the vintage clothing we have in stock; our range of Smith and Gibb’s jewellery shows their wide array of geometric forms, block colours and shimmering textures.

The project is named after its owner’s grandparents, Trevor Smith & Margaret Gibb, who wrote love letters to one another during the second world war. Rebecca, the owner, designer, manager, maker and omg everything used to make work with the love letters and their handwriting, but continues to carry the pair’s love with her through the name of her brand. Rebecca graduated from DJCAD!

These bold shapes and colours are distinctive and striking. You can dress up with their silk tassel earrings, tassels solve problems, we say. They come in vibrant, soft colours or celebrate the angular rooftops of Copenhagen with their orange or red enamel studs! They have a modular feel with the silver bars contrasting a series of shapes and sizes. The larger double square earrings have been a hit and are still one of our favourites with complimentary and contrasting colours on offer, they’re ones to keep with you too!

Nmarra’s brass statement earrings

We’d love to learn Nmarra’s production secrets because all their offerings are absolutely gorgeous and we’ve always got some of them in our shop. Nmarra’s jewellery has a rewarding symmetry and looks drawn, slight, sketched into the air. They’re handmade in Glasgow, not far from us in Strathbungo, and the brass is sourced from the U.K; they have gold plated hooks soldered to their back for best comfort and hygiene. When it comes to jewellery, you can’t get more ‘Handmade in Scotland’, really. What’s even better? They’re wax sealed but over time will develop a beautiful so-called patina, distinctive to brass and copper

You can gift a loved one, or yourself as ever, yes you can, the cleaner, petite Resa or Tera that remind us of markmaking and pattern cutting or opt for the equally be-you-ti-ful, but more intricately carved Lura pair. They span the ballroom and the everyday more than any other on offer and we love that look: either dressing gown and coffee, in the office and coffee or maxi dress and ummm a cocktail? An espresso martini probably, well, definitely.

Olivia Taylor’s beauty in silver and gold

On the finer end of our offerings are Silver and Gold jewellery from the inimitable Olivia Taylor. Sleek, slender, assured and corrugated? Oh! And we have so many! Talking about nailing a style, since graduating in 2019 Olivia has developed a gorgeous brand and produces stunning jewellery with recycled silver and 18ct gold. They’re distinctive and immaculate. Undoubtedly one of Scotland’s most identifiable independent makers. We stock a full range of the so-named Ondulée earrings and bangles in our Southside shop, but they’re available on our online vintage shop too! Ondulée, from French, means ‘to undulate’ and we can see why.

We love the Ondulée range for its understated design. We’ve adored the tassel earrings—yes let’s repeat it, tassels solve problems—since we got them in and there are many variations on the Ondulée theme: the drop earrings, the most gorgeous bangle in Silver or Gold and the favourite statement Ondulée earrings.

Find all three of these wonderful independent, female founded Glasgow businesses in store and on our online shop. And with small business Saturday approaching its a great time to shop local…

As we find ourselves hurtling towards December, we’ve been prepping our gift boxes: there’ll be one for every family member, every friend, those who like marmite, those who don’t and those who need lifting up and those who, well, need to chill out. They’re coming.

For our standard fare, we’ve been having an ‘oldie but a goldie’ in the hopper from Papercup. Do you remember Glasgow coffee before Papercup? There was coffee, but not all the specialty coffee there is today!

Remember anytime you’re after specialty coffee and independent vintage we’re just here at 44 Nithsdale Road, Strathbungo! Bring your doggos and good spirits! Now we’re rolling out more of our carefully selected products online so our shop is filling up and up, and we’ve just been on a vintage stock trip, just saying!
