December, goodbye 2021

End-of-Year chat

Recently, we’ve maxxed our chai game, so we’re now using Yogi-Yogi chai from Glasgow’s mainstay tea-institute Tchai Ovna; this, in tandem with our winter drinks, all makes for a warming, festive month to come. All made possible by our new gommes from William Fox. What’ve we got? We’ve got Gingerbread and Cinnamon for Lattes–do you also wonder if there’s a baby somewhere called Latté? –and what’s more, we’re doing a Bounty Hot Chocolate, also with coconut milk, just to double up; and the shining heart-warmer our Campfire Hot Chocolate: with 70% dark chocolate, smokey hickory gomme, your choice of milk and FINALLY torched marshmallow. whoah. yes torched marshmallow from fluffy clouds in a jar. where dreams go to be drunk. What’s love , but a second-hand emotion?

For those pending gifts, we’re offering some chocolatey gift boxes in a couple of varieties available on our store. There’s a coffffeeee one with two bags of drinking chocolate and two bars of coffffeeee chocolate from Heist + Coco and a pure chocolatey one with two bags of Heist + Coco drinking chocolate and a mix of two chocolate bars. What’s love got to do, got to do with it?

What else is new? Well we’re stocking some soy-wax scented candles, they’re all about xmas too. A gift set with all available ambiences: Christmas Spice, Hazelnut Cappuccino, Gingerbread and Fireside. It goes without saying how well they compliment our winter drinks menu. They come in gift-packs of four or individually and are from the inimitable Tracey Chapman at Claremont Studios, who produces soaps, candles, textiles, illustrations and more. Forever worth a visit, all year round. Who needs a heart, when a heart can be broken?

One of our faves, everything is our fave, are the beautiful, reflective earrings by Nmarra, from their Brass Statement Collection. Their symmetry, size and play between 2D/3D all contribute to how striking they look. The name, a twist on the Gaelic ‘na mara’ or ‘of the sea’, is reflected in the brass, which is treated with wax to minimise oxidisation and aid the colour in deepening over time. Mix this with their bold, illustrative design and we’re set to all look even more beautiful than we already are.

Another Glasgow Classic we have in atm is the kitchenware from John Maguire, who we remember a few years back did all the ceramics for Meadow Road, along Dumbarton Road, which is still going strong with their ‘wall of brownies’. John’s work presents deep contrasts and relies on asymmetrical forms or lopsided designs. And so it is with the pieces we have in stock, the cups and saucers in particular wouldn’t be unwelcome in a reimagining of Alice in Wonderland, where time and space all spin into quirks of logic; the deep black bowls still carry a sense of having been thrown–not across the room, but on the potter’s wheel–with their wavy, topographical lips.

One more before we go is our very own, yes ours, Julia Gittins [heartz] who’s new prints are so current and fantastical, based on everyone’s own His Dark Materials. Julia works predominantly with lino-cuts and is currently building a new desk for herself, so expect to see a lot more coming from there in 2021. The prints are wonderful, looking at the saviour lorek

Our treat jar is always full, once again thanks to a.pasrty and only takes a second to pop open for those doggos, so don't hold back y’know, we won’t begrudge two visits on the same day from particular good doggos.
